Business Slogan 38: Keeps Going, Going, Going
A carefully crafted business slogan speaks volumes of it’s brand values and promises, successfully.
Before you see this clip with Darth Vadar in it, make a guess - who owns the line? You might not remember the company’s name but I’m pretty sure you have an inkling that it’s belongs to a battery company. Well, is this slogan by Duracell, Energizer or Eveready?
In this TV commercial from the early 1990’s, the Energizer Bunny® encounters Darth Vader in the Bespin Freezing Chamber from The Empire Strikes Back.
This business slogan is coined in the early 1990s. It went hand in hand with the Energizer Bunny, who was born in 1989, in most ads (other than those appearing in Europe and Australia). One of the early commercials was a simple comparison ad where a roomful of battery operated bunnies was seen happily drumming away. Slowly one by one, they petered out, except the one with Energizer’s batteries inside. Years later, the company used more comparison ads. Whether it is using simple comparison advertisements or a parody of advertisements, the essence of the message remains loyal to the slogan. The battery is superior to any other brands because it keeps going, going, going.
This famous business slogan is made even more popular and memorable by the addition of a catchy jingle - a great example of a celebrated ad slogan.
Note: This business slogan was shortened to “Keep Going” in the mid 2000s.

Cute ad there! I found that both Eveready and Duracell have used similar approaches to endorsing the length of their respective battery lives, such that it is difficult to tell one from the other. If you have not highlighted this commercial, I would not be able to differentiate between the Energizer bunny and the Duracell bunny!

That bunny is energetic all right. That’s why it deserved it’s place as one of the top 10 advertising icons.

[...] I told her sales is everywhere, in fact, omnipresent. A conversation like what I had with her is a sale. If she bought what I had said, she is a buyer and I am the seller. No matter where we are in life, each and everyone of us is a salesman. We have to sell ourselves in a job interview to get a job. We have to sell ourselves to justify why we deserve that promotion better than Tom and John. We have to sell ourselves so that our significant others believe that we are the good deals. The list goes on and on and on like the Energizer Bunny. [...]
