Crisis Management as part of your Marketing Plans

I just saw a post over at calvinwarr.com which I felt was significant enough to make a short note on. His post was about “crisis marketing” and basically, it is a twist on the concept of “crisis management”.

As we all know, in most PR plans, there are contingencies made for when bad things happen. In this case, it was an example of how Thomas the Tank Engine toys had to be recalled and how the company handled it. More importantly, it was about how Marcie took this opportunity to market alternative purchase options for Thomas The Tank Engine fans. Very clever opportunistic marketing which Calvin dubbed “crisis marketing”.
